-Guys are pickier about the attractiveness of people they date than about the attractiveness of people they just hook up with (because whatever, it's just one time).
-Whereas girls are pickier about the attractiveness of hook-ups than about the attractiveness of people they date (because if you're actually dating someone, personality and such things are also factors).

On balance, I'd say that's true. Of course for most members of either gender attractiveness standards go down in inverse proportion to the amount of alcohol they have consumed. Another question worth debating would be whether this phenomenon is equally true of men and women. Certainly the ladies are not immune, as I have repeatedly witnessed a typically discerning female friend of mine make some astonishingly funky selections after that 5th whiskey. Beer goggles ain't just for the fellas yo (I know I've mixed my rhetorical intoxicants but I just don't cotton to the term "Whiskey Goggles". Anyway I'm pretty sure she was drunk on both each time.)
i think people hooking up for fun/last minute unpremeditated hookups are generally pretty blind. but the question is really heterosexual.....
